Rivian R1T – Amazing Specs, Price, Design

Manufacturer Rivian has succeeded in being the first to bring an electric all-terrain vehicle onto the market. The company started production of the Rivian R1T pick-up last week. Rivian is a new car manufacturer. One with American roots, founded by the now 35-year-old  Robert Joseph Scaringe  and intended as an answer to Tesla. There will also be an SUV variant on the same basis, which will be called Rivian R1S.

The rigorous tests show that this EV is not inferior to its adventurous counterparts that run on oil. The vehicle pulls with the same ease, but in luxury and with zero emissions, through hills, savanna, mud and high water.

Interior Design Of Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T combines 5 full seats with a special interior material from which you can spray the dirt. The ingenious Skateboard structure is also full of clever storage spaces, such as in the nose, under the flat load floor and under the rear seat. There is also a kind of lockable tunnel between the passenger cell and the rear wheels in which you can lose extra stuff. Like, say, the tent that you can attach to the stern. The payload is specified as 800 kilograms, the trailer load should be just under five tons and if it is fully exhausted, however, the range shrinks by half.

Rivian R1T Performance

The loading area with an electric tailgate measures 1.37 by 1.30 meters. In addition, the Rivian offers a covered, 312 litre cargo space under the front hood and a tunnel compartment behind the double cab that holds 337 litres. Its doors can also be used as running boards. Optionally, the R1T can also be equipped with all kinds of gimmicks. A camping kitchen, for example, or charging connections for cell phones, flashlights and e-bikes, which can be safely stowed on the loading area with practical struts. The more weight the less the ‘range’ becomes of course.

Exterior Design Of Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T, made of aluminum, high-strength steels and carbon, competes with its double cab and four doors in the typical US pickup truck format. It is 5.54 meters long, with folded exterior mirrors 2.01 meters wide and 1.83 meters high and has a wheelbase of 3.43 meters. Short overhangs at the front and rear and a ground clearance of 20 to almost 37 centimeters thanks to adjustable air suspension should ensure sufficient off-road capability.

The R1T also seems to come with a slightly smaller extended cab. This version will be featured with shortened rear doors that are still hinged at the front. Rivian uses a skateboard architecture to accommodate the complete battery pack in addition to the drive components.

Engine And Battery Of Rivian R1T

The drive is provided by four electric motors, one on each wheel. The output of the individual motors is given as 147 kW, the total system output as 588 kW (800 PS). The total torque is between 560 and 1,120 Newton meters. This allows a special feature: As a video published by the manufacturer shows, the R1T can turn on the spot – like a tank. Equipped with the top configuration, the almost 2.7-ton Rivian should spurt from zero to 100 km / hr in about three seconds. The top speed is 200 km / hr.

Depending on configuration types, battery can be classified as 105, 135 or 180 kilowatt-hours. The ranges are staggered as follows: The first R1T models on offer with the medium battery size should, according to the factory, create 483 kilometers. According to their official measurements, the US environmental protection agency EPA even certifies that the pick-up has a range of 505 kilometers. The versions with a range of 402 and 644 kilometers will follow later. Battery and other upgrades should be possible over the air.

The batteries should be able to bunker new energy by fast charging with up to 160 kilowatts. 80 percent of the capacity is charged in 50 minutes, and enough electricity should flow for around 320 kilometers in 30 minutes.

Features And Specs Of Rivian R1T

The features included in the vehicle are somewhat mind-blowing. Initially, the standard assistance systems, which allow some independent driving on highways, including lane changes, work with twelve ultrasonic and five radar sensors as well as eleven cameras that depict a complete 360-degree view, and LIDAR technology. The car has a built-in kitchen, complete with utensils, sink and cooking facilities if a customer wants it.
