With the Tata Nexon EV Max, a new range-extender, Tata has broadened the appeal of the Nexon EV. This new version has a 33 percent larger battery pack and a claimed range of 437 kilometers, which is 125 kilometers longer than the standard 30.2kWh version.

The Nexon EV Max was unveiled by Tata Motors earlier this month to increase the Indian automaker’s supremacy in the four-wheel EV category.

The Nexon EV Max has launched at a starting price of Rs 17.74 lakh, with an emphasis on introducing continual upgrades throughout its lineup. The improved range of 437 kilometers means less recharging is required. Intercity travel will also become much more convenient, whereas the standard Nexon EV was launched in January 2020 and it has a starting price of Rs 14.54 lakh and a shorter range of 312km per charge.

Range, Battery, and Charging

The Tata Nexon EV Max is fitted out with a 40.5 kW battery pack. This is larger than the normal Nexon EV SUV’s 30.2 kW lithium-ion battery. The larger battery also contributes to the electric SUV’s longer range. The Nexon EV Max is said to have a range of up to 437 kilometers on a single charge, compared to 312 kilometers in normal models. The real-world range of the two electrical vehicles, however, may vary varying on how they are driven. Because of the addition of a 7.2 kW charging system, the Tata Nexon EV Max can charge faster than the normal version. It can allow a full charge of the vehicle in less than 7 hours, compared to nearly 9 hours with the 3.3 kW charger. In around an hour, DC rapid charging can assist the car recharge.

Performance and Electric motors

Tata Motors has also made changes to the Nexon EV Max’s electric motor. It now provides the EV with a more impressive Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. The Nexon EV Max has a maximum power output of 143 horsepower and instantaneous torque of 250 Nm. The regular version has a peak output of 129 hp and torque of 245 Nm, indicating a significant performance improvement. The Nexon EV Max, according to Tata, can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in under 9 seconds, as opposed to 9.9 seconds in the basic variant.

Advanced Features

Compared to  Nexon EV,  Tata Nexon EV Max has much more features. To improve efficiency, the automaker has executed a multi-mode regen. It has four regenerative braking levels. For emergency braking, the electric SUV also has a panic brake alert, which turns on the hazard lights. This will allow other automobiles to respond quickly enough to avoid a crash. Hill Hold Assistance, Hill Descent Control, and Auto Vehicle Hold are all available on the Nexon EV Max.
Air purifiers and ventilated seats are also included in the Tata Nexon EV Max. The top-spec Nexon EV Max additionally includes a sunroof. New design cues have been added to the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Price Tag

The Nexon EV Max will be more expensive due to its larger battery pack, strong engine, and enhanced charging mechanism. Add in new alternatives like ventilated seats and a sunroof, and the price has risen even more. The Nexon EV Max starts at Rs. 17.74 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Nexon EV starts at Rs. 14.79 lakh. The top-spec Nexon EV costs 17.40 lakh, which is significantly cheaper than the entry-level Nexon EV Max.

The two EVs have the same proportions, though the Nexon EV Max’s ground clearance has decreased slightly due to a larger battery pack.
