Tata Motors has finally launched its much-anticipated first fully electric car Tata Tigor EV. It is offered in versions like XM and XT and three colors- silver, white and blue. This EV sedan has been designed to target commercial, fleet operators, and private owners in our country. The best part of this car is that it takes advantage of the FAME II subsidy scheme offered by the Indian government on electrically-driven vehicles due to which it attracts an Rs.1.62 lakhs subsidy. 

Whereas the Tata brand has won a tender of EESL as well. Tata’s Tigor EV marked headlines in 2017 when the company won this tender to supply 10,000 units of its electric vehicle to the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). Recently, the car came in the news when it became available to the public through car-hire services. However, the company can’t confirm the time frame of this model yet.

The first impression of the Tata Tigor EV is quite impactful. Its engine doesn’t produce any noise. The powertrain is more refined as compared to Mahindra e2O’s. While driving at a slow speed, Tigor EV glides along well and the driver gets the experience of driving a smooth automatic transmission-loaded conventional car. Even on the busy roads, the Tigor EV manages to go smoothly with the traffic.

Tata Motors’s all-new Tigor EV has most of the features almost similar to its petrol/diesel models except its unique EV decals present on the front door. What makes this car different from others are the projector headlights, adjustable driver seats, electrically adjustable ORVMs, power windows, body-colored door handles, and robust bumpers. 

The sleek design of the bonnet, stylish door panels and fender add a completely new look to this car. At the rear end, tailgate with chrome badging, all-new bumper with cladding, high-positioned stop lamps, and LED tail light are some of the things that enhance the physical appearance of this car while driving on the road.

Tata Motors has introduced only minor changes in its Interior design in the 2019 Tata Tigor EV as compared to its counterpart Tigor. The comfortability and convenience feature make this car, a must buy.

Tigor AMT gear selector allows you to drive at your pace. The only difference in the interior design is on the instrument console, an analog State of Charge (SOC) dial has replaced the tachometer in the EV variant.

All seats come with an adjustable headrest, climate control system, plenty of space for bottle and cup holding, and power windows. Not only this, there is a 2-DIN Harman audio unit with USB connectivity, AUX cable option, and Bluetooth compatibility.

The engine of the Tata Tigor EV

The Tata Tigor EV is driven by a 72V, three phases induction motor that can generate the maximum 40bhp power at 4,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 105Nm at 2,500 rpm. The engine comes loaded with a single-speed AT. The battery of the EV can be either charged using an AC charger or a 15W DC charger. 

The AC charger charges up to 80% battery in 6 hours and the DC charger takes only 90 minutes to charge the battery up to 80 %. Plugging this car into the DC charger is quite easy. The plugging gun is usually heavy so you need to hold it using both hands. According to ARAI, this car supports a driving range of up to 213km on a single charge.

Performance-wise this 2019 Tata Tigor EV can reach from 0 to 60 kmph in just 12 seconds and attain a max speed of 80 kmph.

Tata Motors is known for considering the safety of its customers on priority. The 2019 Tata Tigor EV Braking system contains disc brakes and drum brakes to prevent drivers and passengers from accidents.

Price of Tata Tigor EV 

The expected ex-showroom price of Tata Tigor EV is Rs.9.44 – Rs.9.76 Lakh.
