Tesla, the American car manufacturer that produces EVs, battery packs for houses and whole city grids, solar panels, and solar roof tiles, is planning to expand into Russia. Currently, Tesla claims to one of its biggest achievements yet, becoming the most valuable car manufacturer in the world.
Recently, Tesla has been looking into expanding into the different continents of the world. Asia and Europe are the first places that expansion starts. Granted, Tesla is having a bit of trouble with Chinese officials, but Tesla has also expanded into Romania and Hungary.
The Expansion Of Tesla into Russia
At the moment, the world is in the process of transitioning towards greener forms of energy, which includes the conversion of cars into electric ones. In this trend, multiple EV companies, like Tesla have come up. Even Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla stated that all means of transport will be electric in the future, except for rockets.
Tesla has announced that they are all set to enter the Russian automotive market. This announcement came when Musk was addressing an event in Russia through a video conference. He also added that the company is opening up in the neighboring countries of Russia, like Kazakhstan and the CIS countries also.
As per reports, Russia will be a suitable place for the second Gigafactory in Europe, the present one being in the outskirts of Berlin, in Germany. For those who might not know, a Gigafactory is a facility where Tesla produces EVs.
The Special Case Of Russia
Elon Musk said, “I think we will soon be present in Russia. I think it will be amazing. We also need to look more broadly at Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. This is important to us…”. He added by saying, “Driving a gasoline sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche”.
One of the main hurdles for Tesla’s expansion into Russia is the fact that it is a US car manufacturer trying to enter Russia. This hurdle is courtesy of the numerous stand-offs, and Cold Wars between the US and Russia.
Granted, during the address, Musk urged the US and Russia to speak when their ties as countries are languishing during post-Cold War lows. Musk started by saying, “There is a lot of talent and energy in Russia and I think there should be more dialogue and communication between Russia and the United States”.
