MG5 EV – Profound Specs, Price And Design

MG5 EV

Fully electric cars come in all shapes and sizes these days, but there was no station wagon yet. And that is quite remarkable given the popularity of station wagons in Europe. The reborn and ambitious car brand MG is the first to fill this ‘gap in the market’ with the MG5 Electric: a spacious C-segment family car in which you can take more than 1400 liters of luggage. The MG brand is known by classic car fans for its small British roadsters, but the now Chinese-owned company is now becoming a name in affordable electric cars.

Measuring 4,544mm long, 1,811mm wide and 1,513mm high, the model is comparable to cars such as the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, Kia Ceed SW and Hyundai i30 Wagon.

The boot offers 464 litres of space up to the load cover when the rear seats are raised. Remove the load cover and this expands to 578 litres. Lower the rear seat backs and the load capacity increases to 1456 litres. There is even comfortable space for adults in the rear seats, and those needing more storage can use the roof rails. There are a couple of cupholders in the central console and a small cubby under the armrest, plus a document pouch on the passenger’s side. The battery is mounted between the front and rear wheels in the floor of the car, so it does not take up any space.

It is equipped with a massive 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-car connectivity features and active safety technologies, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The MG 5 EV has all the right stuff in a dashboard that while far from plush is easy to understand. You will also find a rotary gear selector and a compact climate control panel, plus a semi-digital gauge cluster that shows you all manner of information you never knew you wanted, like motor speed and battery voltage.

Exterior Design Of MG5

The MG 5 EV is a pretty generic-looking car. There’s a slight hint of a splitter at the front, and waved ridges at the top and bottom of the side panels provide a bit more flow to the length of the car. The door handles and wing mirrors are colour coded to the paint, with some silver elements to the front trim. The new model incorporates a specially designed nose without a large faux radiator grille, unlike the current model. The sleeker headlamps, vertical side air vents, and newly designed bumper give the electric wagon a sharper and bolder appearance. Shiny new alloy wheels enhance the styling on the sides. Five colours are available – black, blue, red, silver and white.

Engine And Battery Of MG5

On the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) cycle, the MG5 Electric has a claimed driving of 400 km on a single charge using the 52.2 kWh battery pack of which 49 kWh is usable. You can charge the MG using a rapid charger via a CCS-style (Combined Charging System) at a maximum rate of 50 kWh, which means you can take the battery from zero to 80% in 50 minutes. The MG5 is powered by a 156 hp electric motor driving the front wheels, and can cover the 0-100 km / h sprint in just over eight seconds.

The brand says it offers superior aerodynamics and better handling, which is ideal for high-mileage fleet drivers and those who value maximum driving efficiency, internal space and driving dynamics. The MG5 sits much lower than most, with the water-cooled battery pack integrated into the car’s chassis, giving it an extremely low centre of gravity. The maximum trailer load of the MG Marvel R Electric is 750 kg. The vehicle is therefore suitable for transporting a trailer or caravan, as well as for carrying two e-bikes on a special bike rack.

Features And Specs Of MG5

MG5 will come with new features like MG Pilot advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which is a combination of adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aids and autonomous emergency braking and V2L ( Vehicle to Load) at 2.5 kW. This technology enables the lithium-ion battery to transfer energy to external electrical devices, such as an air pump, electric scooter, laptop, or even another electric vehicle. This technology is considered an important innovation for energy transition and last-mile solutions such as e-scooters and e-bikes. LED daytime running lights and projector headlamps, air conditioning, a reversing camera are few among the highlighted features.
